A species with a lot of color variation across its large range. Looking at the HBW illustrations, the impiger subspecies has the least grey head and the leg colors match. I am confident about the ID because it was identified by the call, but the Pale-eyed Pygmy Tyrant is similar, and also present in the dry north.
Small size, light colored eye, and dry {scrub} habitat similar to [Pale-eyed Pygmy Tyrant]. Check vocal differences, and pearly {vent}. Note also head is grey and bill is one color (the same color at the base as the tip).
