For over a year now I have been using a Tamrac 5549 Adventure 9 Photo/Laptop Backpack. I can carry my 300mm f/2.8 lens, camera, three flashes, three teleconverters, and batteries. I suspect the bag could hold a 500mm lens without the hood. The bag of the bag has a padded compartment for a notepad (a small laptop with a 12 or 13 inch screen). The bag also has a compartment for documents or a 'Better Beamer' flash extender. The bag has velcro dividers so you can customize the compartments. I removed most of those, leaving just one for my camera and one for the teleconverters.
I am very happy with this product, and strongly recommend it.
and it has a five year warranty
which I have to test as the zipper to the computer compartment is not working. Update: the solved my problem quickly through the warranty program.

it comes in red to attract hummingbirds and black. And probably it could hold a 15" laptop.
