Flight of the firebirds! ... Up towards the northern end of Kenya's rift valley in a dry and very sparsely populated area lies lonely Lake Bogoria. Bogoria is a soda lake -the caustic waters being so alkaline that they support little in the way of higher aquatic life. However Blue-green Algae thrive in these caustic waters and under the powerful equatorial sun the lake has become a rich microbial soup upon which flamingoes thrive. At times there can be over a million Lesser Flamingoes on this lake creating a spectacle that is beyond.
