It's the early (carrion) bird that....
A pair of White-headed Vultures photographed near their nest in rather poor morning light.
Unlike most vultures these birds rise early and have often eaten their fill from a carcase before the Gyps vultures arrive. This image was taken about an hour after sunrise and they had clearly just fed (a feed from the previous night would not result in a crop this distended the next morning).
White-headed Vultures are territorial so it is very unusual to see more than a pair at a carcase. Whilst having a wide range in Sub-Saharan Africa they are nowhere numerous.
