This Scarlet-chested Parrot proved to be the biggest single highlight of the trip for me. After a few good seasons further west, numbers of Scarlet-chested Parrots at Gluepot in SE South Australia have increased, with a relatively high number of birders seeing these rare and enigmatic parrots in Gluepot over the past 2 or 3 months.
I was lucky enough, after 4 or 5 days of searching, to finally locate this stunning male feeding on low vegetation and on the ground, and spent a very rewarding half hour with him. The red on the breast is really that bright and the blues on the face and wings are just gorgeous. They are a truly stunning bird, but are rare and hard to locate in the wild.
