I have uploaded this image LARGE SIZE, so please take the time to view it as such. I have done absolutely nothing to sharpen this image whatsoever. Shot with the 300/f2.8 wide open at f2.8. To illustrate the sharpness and shallow depth of field of this lens. Obviously, there is a fair bit of latitude to sharpen the image post-shutter. There is also quite a bit of noise, perhaps because it was shot RAW and converted without noise removal (still, it was ISO 200...)
