This is surely one of the world's smallest birds, with only a few of the smallest hummingbirds measuring smaller. The average length is 6.5 cm and the weight is 4.2 g.
It can be found in most of the Amazon in northern and central South America. It is fairly common throughout most of its range, but is easily overlooked, probably due to its tiny size and insect-like vocalization.
