This bird was at a five year old nest, and is the fifth eagle reared by the same pair. This individual is four months old, and may be a male because it seemed a little small. At this age the parents just drop by on occasion with something dead, and the bird is mostly on its own to learn to fly and hunt.
The largest and rarest of the American hawk-eagles. This species will venture to higher altitudes in the Andes than other species of hawk-eagle, and is primarily an Andean cloud forest species.
