Extreme care should be taken when photographing night birds with a lantern or flash. Or they should not be photographed at all. These birds were at the entrance of the cave and were probably lit up by every cave visitor, and the flash was set very low. I got the photo I wanted after two tries, and didn't take any more photos. I wrote an article about photography and the flash, including a part about photographing birds at night and if it could harm their eyes .
A daytime cave-dweller, and a distant relative of the nighthawk order of birds. Oilbirds, which have oily feathers, are fruit-eaters. Note large hooked bill different than a nighthawk.
