Described in 1982, this superb antpitta in found only at high elevations in the Andes of northern Peru. Its habitat is mostly inaccessible. San Lorenzo has long been the most reliable spot to see it, but deforestation continues, and I would not be surprised if becomes next to impossible to get on a typical birding tour in the near future.
