In addition to the taxonomic discussions on albatrosses, there is another seabird group that has raised several issues: the skuas.
Generally, the jaegers are recognised as Long-tailed, Arctic (Parasitic) and Pomarine (although some advocate placing Pomarine amongst the skuas). The skuas are less clear-cut. The general consensus appears now the comprise of Great Skua (Catharacta skua; North Atlantic); Brown Skua (C. antarcticus; Southern Ocean, with several races; some advocate several species); Chilean Skua (C. chilensis; Chile) and South Polar Skua (C. maccormicki; Southern Ocean).
The birds we get in Australia appear to be of Brown Skua, Catharacta antarcticus, race lonnbergi.
