A flock of around 20 of these birds was present out at Mt Majura today.
For those who are not familiar with Swift Parrots, they are an endangered lorikeet-sized parrot that breeds in Tasmania. They disperse to the mainland in autumn-winter. They are relatively rare on the mainland, and turn up in Canberra every 3-4 years.
They spend most of their time in the canopy, and as such are hard to photograph. However, after 2.5 hours of tracking this flock, they finally descended to a more suitable level both for viewing and photographing.
