This mega-rarity was seen at a hummingbird feeder at a private residence in Clarksville, Md. in October 2011. Its stay was much too brief, about 42 hours. We really appreciate the homeowner who quickly notified the birding community and allowed many birders to come and see her special visitor.
Split from the Green Violetear (now called [Lesser Violetear]) and found from Nicaragua northward. The Mexican Violetear has a blue chest like the larger [Sparkling Violetear] found in South America. Male and female similar. Wanders north to many parts of the United States.
