This is the male of a pair of Pacific Black Ducks that have taken up residence in an ornamental creek in our garden. We suspect that they are nesting, given that they go away during the day and return near dusk. They are probably in the laying stage - they lay one a day until the clutch is complete, after which time incubation starts (ever wondered why most hatchings are simultaneous even though birds generally lay an egg a day or even every 2 days?). We had a nest in our garden 2 years ago that had 9 eggs.
