We have been down in South Eastern Arizona for the past 6 weeks and came home via the Pawnee National Grassland, CO and Grasslands National Park, SK.
My bucket list included the grasslands longspurs and sparrows. I did get to see the McGowan Longspur in Pawnee, but didn't manage a shot. I got lucky in SK with this guy.
This longspur is classified as vulnerable by the IUCN.
It breeds in prairie habitats in Canada and the northern United States and winters to the south in the United States and Mexico.
