EDITOR: The Red Knot is a symbol for conservation. The bird's migration stretches from the south of Argentina to the Arctic Circle, and it requires many resting stops. By chance I visited one stop, a protected area in central Argentina, where I was told Canadians had spent $700,000 to build a nature center dedicated to the Red Knot. The center even has guards on the beach. I would check the Birdlife Factsheet (link below) for the latest status.
{Northern migrant}. A large stocky sandpiper. Grey in non-breeding plumage. Migrates from the northern arctic to as far south as south Argentina and South Africa.
