This is a series of four photos of a Verdin in Arizona eating a larva. Having grabbed it by the tip of its beak, it needed to use its foot to get it into its mouth. These birds are 3.5 to 4.5 inches and are tough to get because, like a Kinglet, they flit around very quickly, usually buried in the branches of a bush or small tree. Taken at the Riparian Reserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert.
