The 2014 VENT Eastern Venezuela tour represented my 25th consecutive year seeing Harpy Eagle in this bird-rich region. We visited Sierra de Lema, Gran Sabana, El Palmar, Rio Grande, Orinoco Delta. In the delta, we enjoyed views of the recently described Rio Orinoco Spinetail and Delta Amacuro Softtail. We rounded up the tour with views of 30 species of birds of prey, 12 species of macaws, parrots, parakeets and parrotlets, 21 species of antbirds and 44 species of tyrant-flycatcher. Also, many tepui endemic spcies were seen!
The female of the race along the Amazon River is streaked, but is dark grey in the other two races. HBW now called the Amazon River subspecies (sclateri) Sclater's Black Tyrant, and it looks a little like a female [Scarlet Flycatcher].
