One of two males we had singing in a marshy grassland area south of Molo at an elevation of 2,590 metres.
This species is a hard to find Kenyan endemic that only occurs round Molo, Mau Narok and the Aberdares. Its preferred habitat is under threat from agriculture and it is listed as "Endangered".
The map shows roughly where we saw the bird but the small dirt tracks we used mean it can only be approximate. If you are interested in finding this species we travelled with Zoothera (www.zootherabirding.com/) with Steve Bird and Gina Nichol as guides together with Chege wa Kariuki of Birdwatching East Africa (www.birdwatchingeastafrica.com/).
