HBW shows the Grey-throated Toucanet, one of six subspecies of the Emerald Toucanet, as having a blue throat. The Grey-throated Toucanet is only found on the west slope of the West Andes.
After much shuffling, this species now includes the similar Grey-throated Toucanet of the Pacific slope, and the somewhat different looking Santa Marta Toucanet.
