On a dead Wax Palm, the food and nesting tree of the Yellow-eared Parrot. These trees die when the forest is cut around them. One theory is the ground becomes saturated and the roots rot, or perhaps the soil ecology changes and insects or bacteria kill the tree. The tree and the parrot are endangered, although the parrot's numbers have rebounded.
A small parrot found very locally in noisy groups in the Andes at around 2500m. Usually found around wax palms, which are used for food and nesting. Now very rare in Ecuador, so perhaps now a Colombian {endemic} species.
