A member of probably the number one target endemic family of Madagascar, the Brachypteraciidae, Ground-Rollers. The family consists of 5 species: Long-tailed, Short-legged, Scaly, Pitta-like and Rufous-headed Ground-Rollers - we were fortunate enough to see all 5 species, with considerable help from local guides who knew where to look, what to look for, knew the calls and their habits. This one was a lot easier to find than the other four, which all live in rainforest; this one lives in the Spiny dry forests of the south-west. A beautiful bird, and a beautiful genus/family. Stunning! This photo doesn't show the nice blue on the wing, but the next one does.
