This is a brackish wetland called Pirang in The Gambia. It is a commercial shrimp farm which also holds good fish stocks and so attracts many fish-eating birds.
In this image a group of Black Herons are taking advantage of the fish displaced by fishing Yellow-billed Storks and Pink-backed Pelicans. This image also contains Great Egrets, an Intermediate Egret, a Little Egret, a Western Reef Heron and an African Spoonbill.
There was also an European Spoonbill, Sacred Ibis, Grey, Black-headed and Striated Herons and some Great White Pelicans in an adjacent pond whilst other ponds held Greater Flamingo, various waders (including a flock of Avocets & B-w Stilts) and a pair of Black Crowned Cranes.
