EDITOR: The Rufous Hummingbird and Allen's Hummingbird appear almost identical. The most noticable difference is that the male Allen's has a green back, slightly seen here. The fact that the Rufous on rare occassion has a green back greatly complicates the identification, but experts concluded this was an Allen's after capture, banding and releasing. Neither species is normally found in Florida, but as I understand it the Rufous might migrate from the south and the Allen's might drift in from the west.
