I don't know much about binoculars. Local birding expert Paddy Cunningham of BirdAdventure.com recommends the waterproof Nikon Monarch, which you can get at 8x and 10x magnification. The reviews on Amazon are very positive as well, mostly comparing them favorably to higher priced models.
